Gibe 3 dam, crest bridge completed

The composite steel and reinforced concrete bridge, located on the crest of Gibe 3 dam in Ethiopia, has been completed by the Salini Impregilo. The structure, consisting of 15 girders with spans between 14 and 21 m, was designed by Studio Masciotta, made in Italy by Giugliano Costruzioni Metalliche, transported and assembled on site. It has been designed for exceptional loads such as those of 200 tons mobile cranes required to install the radial gates and service crane.

Alberto Bezzi’s presentation at Africa 2017

Alberto Bezzi from Studio Pietrangeli has presented the article "Design of Great Ethiopian Renaissance RCC Main Dam” written jointly with D. D’alberti, A. Masciotta, G. Pietrangeli and C. Rossini at the International Conference Africa 2017 “Water Storage and Hydropower Development for Africa”, Marrakech, Morocco.

Francesca Mattei has obtained his PhD

Francesca Mattei, who works with Studio Masciotta, has obtained his PhD with the thesis: “Modeling of material non linearity of existing frame concrete structures” at the University of Rome “La Sapienza” Faculty of Civil Engineering.

Completed a seismic improvement in Rome

The seismic improvement of a private building in Rome designed by Studio Masciotta has been completed. The project involved the reinforcement of r.c. nodes with carbon fibers and the reinforcements of the masonry by placing of steel chains and local supports.

Ethiopia inaugurates Gibe III Dam

Ethiopia inaugurates Gibe III, the biggest hydroelectric dam in the country with an installed capacity of 1,870 MW and the tallest RCC gravity dam in the world. Studio Masciotta is proud to have performed the stability analyses of the dam and to have calculated most of its appurtenant structures, among which chutes, side walls, concrete piers, road piers, road bridge and crane bridge.
